Girls soccer: Geneva shuts out Downers Grove South
The Geneva girls soccer team marched to 11-0 and opened up the Naperville Invitational with a commanding 4-0 win over Downers Grove South as Sydney Gratz, Alicia White, Molly McGavin and Maddy Rapach-Lagowski fired goals.
Rapach-Lagowski, Stephanie Howe and Caitlin Farrell collected assists as keepers Emma Harkleroad and Katie Montomgery each made 1 save to combine for the Vikings' 10th shutout of the year. Geneva has outscored its opponents 52-1.
CL South 4, West Chicago 1: Jess Schoenfeldt and Jenna Ross each had 1 goal and 1 assist in a win at the Larkin invite. Taylor Bittenbender and Cam Sengstock also registered goals for CLS (8-1-1) while goalie Annika Sevcik notched a shutout with 3 saves.
Jacobs 2, Huntley 1 (OT): The Golden Eagles (8-4, 3-0) remained unbeaten in Fox Valley Conference action thanks to the heroics of Cassie Kowalski, who scored 2 goals, including the game-winner in the final minute of double overtime. Hannah Scholer collected the Red Raiders' only goal while keeper Abbey Brown managed 7 saves for Huntley (5-4-3, 1-2).
Cary-Grove 5, Dundee-Crown 0: The Trojans (6-2, 2-1) went hat trick crazy in a FVC win over the Chargers (5-7, 2-2). Purdue-bound Teagan Jones hammered home a hat trick of goals while Kelly Stayart did the same in the assist department. Natalie Gallant also added 2 goals for C-G.
Burlington Central 2, Johnsburg 0: In Kishwaukee River action, Madelyn Menke and Megan Majewski's unassisted goals added up to a win for the Rockets (11-1, 7-0). Goalie Abbi Ciganek needed just 1 save for a shutout.
Kaneland 4, Rochelle 0: The Knights (6-4, 1-2) raced to a 3-goal halftime lead prior to a Northern Illinois Big XII East win. Abbie Lomahan, Becca Geringer, Gabrielle Faletto and Lindsay Penkala tallied goals while Bailey Pritchard had 1 assist.
