Baseball: Geneva holds off Elgin
Geneva scored 4 runs in the first inning Tuesday then held off Elgin late in the game for a 6-4 Upstate Eight River baseball win.
Dominic Guido had 2 hits with a double and an RBI while Jack Olson added 2 hits with a double for the Vikings (8-5, 5-2).
Sean Sinisko was the winning pitcher.
JC Fortmann had 2 hits and 3 RBI for Elgin. Hayden Gibson added a double for the Maroons (3-10, 2-5).
West Aurora 9, Glenbard East 3: Cam Zimmerman (2 RBI), Connor Palmby and Josh Adam (RBI) each had 2 hits for West Aurora in this UEC Valley win. David Woods added a double and 3 RBI for the Blackhawks (2-11, 1-2). Alberto Martinez picked up the win on the mound, going 7 innings while allowing 7 hits with 1 strikeout and 2 walks.
St. Charles East 13, Batavia 3: John Dellostritto and Justin Galante (RBI) had 2 hits each to lead the Saints to a UEC River win. Steve Abruzzo tripled for SCE (10-4, 5-1) while John Carroll (2 RBI) and Niko Plaskowy each had doubles. Niko Klebosits was the winning pitcher, going 5 innings and allowing 4 hits with 7 strikeouts and 1 walk. Quinn O'Brien had 2 hits for Batavia (3-6, 2-4).
South Elgin 11, East Aurora 1: In the UEC Valley, Kevin Barry had a home run, double and 4 RBI to lead South Elgin (6-2. 4-0) to the win. Bryant Diel added a double and 3 RBI for the Storm while Adam Walker (3 hits, 2B), Ben Banks (2B, RBI) and Nate Gomez (2B) also contributed. Patrick Herion was the winning pitcher.
Rochelle 8, Kaneland 6: Jack Marshall had 3 hits including a home run for Kaneland in this Northern Illinois Big XII East loss in eight innings. Luke Calabrese added 2 doubles for the Knights (7-7, 3-1) and Robbie Dudzinski had a double and 3 RBI.
McHenry 5, CL South 2: Kory Olsen and Nick Wolski had doubles for Crystal Lake South (14-1, 5-1) in its Fox Valley Conference loss.
St. Edward 12, Guerin 2: The Green Wave won for the second straight day as Daniel Falco had 3 hits and an RBI. Jack Olson added 3 hits with a double and an RBI for St. Edward (3-11, 3-6 Metro Suburban) while winning pitcher Matthew Schimbke (5 IP, 7 H, 4 Ks, 1BB) added 2 hits and 2 RBI. Parker Frey also had a double for the Wave.
Harvest Christian 2, Luther North 1: Held scoreless for 10 innings, Harvest came back to score once in the 11th and then Dylan Lockwood's single scored Zach Pawelek (2B) with the winning run in the top of the 12th as the Lions (14-2, 5-0) prevailed in the Northeastern Athletic Conference. Dayne Frederick and Drew Lewis each had triples for Harvest. Joey Pepper was the winning pitcher in relief of Lewis, who struck out 12 in 7⅔ innings.
Aurora Christian 21, Rockford Christian Life 6: Eric Hernandez had 4 hits with a double and 4 RBI to lead Aurora Christian to this NAC win. Also contributing for the Eagles (6-4, 4-1) were MJ Stavola (2B, 2 RBI), winning pitcher Clark Turek (2 hits, 2 RBI), Robert Lewis (2 hits, 2 RBI) and Zach Zavasnik (2 hits, 3B, 5 RBI).
