Baseball: St. Charles North wins despite no-hitter by Batavia's Albanese

Despite being no-hit by Batavia's Glenn Albanese, St. Charles North's baseball team came away with a 1-0 Upstate Eight River win on Monday.

Sam Faith drew a walk for the North Stars in the bottom of the seventh inning and courtesy runner Jason Shanner proceeded to steal second and then went to third on a groundout before scoring the game-winning run on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Sean Krueger.

Albanese struck out 6 and walked 2 for Batavia (3-5, 2-3).

Ryan Litavecz picked up the win for SCN (9-2, 4-1), allowing 3 hits with 4 strikeouts and 2 walks.

South Elgin 6, Streamwood 3: Kevin Barry had 2 hits including a double and 3 RBI as the Storm (5-2, 3-0) won this Upstate Eight crossover game. Patrick Keaty added 2 hits for South Elgin while Nate Gomez had 2 RBI and Bryant Diel a double. Dylan Wells picked up the win on the mound and Gomez the save. Adam Sojda had 3 hits with 2 doubles and an RBI for Streamwood (5-7, 2-5) and Jose Aguilar added a double and 2 RBI.

Jacobs 8, Hampshire 7: Daniel Klein scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning on a sacrifice by Jacob Sonnefeldt as the Golden Eagles (12-2, 5-1) came away with this Fox Valley Conference win. Adam Kale had 3 hits and an RBI for Jacobs while Ian Oreskovich added 2 hits and an RBI, Spencer Foulks 2 hits and an RBI and Cory Dennison 2 hits. Sonnefeldt and Ryan McGorian each doubled for Jacobs. Austin Asplen picked up the pitching win in relief. Matthew Wians had a double and 3 RBI for Hampshire (6-9-1, 3-6) and Noah Schrader added a double.

CL South 9, Dundee-Crown 3: Scott Skwarek had 3 hits with a double and 2 RBI to lead the Gators (14-0, 5-0) to this FVC win. Griffin Bright (2 hits, RBI), Brian Fuentes (2 hits, 2B, 3 RBI) and Michael Swiatly (2 hits) added to the Crystal Lake South offense. Luke Dunham was the winning pitcher, allowing 1 hit with 6 strikeouts and 2 walks in 5 innings. Erik Hedmark had 2 hits and 2 RBI for Dundee-Crown (5-7, 2-7).

Cary-Grove 6, CL Central 2: Quinn Priester allowed just 3 hits and no earned runs with 9 strikeouts and 2 walks to lead the Trojans (12-3, 7-2) to this FVC win. Tommy Neilsen and Zach Willis each had 2 hits and an RBI for C-G.

St. Edward 8, Guerin 4: Daniel Falco had 3 hits with a double and Jack Olson added 2 hits with a double and 2 RBI as St. Edward (2-11, 2-6) won in the Metro Suburban Conference. Matthew Schimbke also drove in 3 runs for the Green Wave and Jacob Lesh had 2 RBI. Nolan Theriault was the winning pitcher, allowing 5 hits with 9 strikeouts and 3 walks in 6 innings.

Huntley 7, Burlington Central 4: In a nonconference games, Brad Model had 3 hits with a double and 2 RBI for Huntley (11-3). Adam Smylie added 2 hits for the Red Raiders while winning pitcher Noah Konie had 2 RBI. Josh Noeska had 2 hits with a double and an RBI for BC (11-3) and Matt Termini added a double.

Aurora Christian 18, Schaumburg Christian 1: Sam Tickel had a triple, double and RBI and Tanner Dissell added 3 hits with 2 doubles and 3 RBI as Aurora Christian (5-4, 3-1) rolled to an easy Northeastern Athletic Conference win. Ethan Stoneberg added a double and an RBI for the Eagles, MJ Stavola had 2 hits and 2 RBI, Clark Turek 2 hits and 2 RBI and Jacob Brothers 2 RBI. Eric Hernandez picked up the win on the mound allowing 1 hit with 6 strikeouts and no walks in 4 innings.

Marmion 12, St. Joseph 2: Bobby Pierce had 2 hits, both doubles, and 2 RBI while Trevor Taus added 2 hits with a double and 2 RBI as Marmion (9-4, 5-1) won in the Chicago Catholic League. Jack Molenhouse (2 hits, 2 RBI) and Chase Stanke (2B, 2 RBI) also contributed for the Cadets, Nick Brummel was the winning pitcher, allowing 4 hits with 8 strikeouts and no walks.
