We are proud to present the 2009 Reader's Choice Awards. The businesses highlighted in this special section and the "Best of the Best" higlighted to the right represent the best in the Chicagoland area -- as voted by you, our readers. We received more than 12,000 ballots in our six-week Reader's Choice promotional campaign, intended to identify the top businesses in Chicago and the suburbs in a wide range of categories. At least three businesses in each category were judged best in our campaign. This was an unprecedented response by our print and online readers, and clear majorities of your votes determined the winners. In a handful of categories, where the votes were too close to declare the top three finalists, we recognized several more of the outstanding nominated businesses.

The list of categories and winners is extensive. As you read over the list, we're sure you will recognize your favorites listed among the many categories. We're also quite sure your will find some surprises and some unknowns among the winners. We encourage you to visit these winners to see what our voters saw in taking the time to fill out ballots in print and online.
