Boring? Not in these parts
Entertainment and recreation in Lake County has evolved in the past 100 years from hoots and hollers at barn dances in the early decades to shrieks and shrills on upside-down roller coasters at Six Flags Great America in recent years. Life here is rarely boring. As its name indicates, Lake County is comprised of many lakes and bordered on the east by Lake Michigan. Boating, fishing and swimming opportunities abound. Popular destinations such as Ravinia, the outdoor music theater in Highland Park, and the Great America theme park in Gurnee draw visitors from throughout the Chicago region in the summertime. Shoppers by the busloads have descended on Gurnee Mills mall since the early 1990s, making it one of the county's top tourist spots. History about one family with deep county roots can be found at the Cuneo Museum and Gardens in Vernon Hills, where an elaborate Christmas light show attracts many visitors during the holidays.
