On the most romantic day of the year, groups around the suburbs will rise up, speak out and dance as part of a worldwide effort to end violence against women. Says 71-year-old Mary Shesgreen, one of the organizers and a longtime member of Fox Valley Citizens for Peace and Justice: "Dancing feels wonderful. It feels liberating. It feels empowering. It's aesthetically expressive. Dance is a very strong and liberating force."

Fired Maine West High School freshman soccer coach Emilio Rodriguez has requested a hearing to appeal his dismissal over allegations of hazing among team members, Maine Township High School District 207 spokesman Dave Beery said Thursday. Rodriguez, a tenured teacher in the applied arts and technology department, was the second Maine West coach to be fired over the hazing scandal. His dismissal in late January came more than a month after the school board fired head boys varsity soccer coach Michael Divincenzo after accusations surfaced that senior members of the soccer team hazed freshman teammates.

Daniel Baker's sentencing will have to wait another six weeks while a court-appointed psychiatrist re-examines the Deerfield man to determine if he is capable of understanding his own potential prison sentence. The decision to delay Baker's sentencing until March 20 was made after Baker penned a letter to Lake County Judge Daniel Shanes in January in which he explained that his ex-girlfriend, Kristina Aksman, killed her mother, Marina Aksman, in April 2010. In the letter, Baker said he covered up the murder to protect his mentally disabled former girlfriend.
