Nine students will walk across the stage Sunday at Lewis University's commencement ceremony to receive bachelor's degrees in criminal justice. Yet, these students never took classes at the school's campus in Romeoville. Through a so-called 3+1 program partnership between Lewis and College of DuPage, the students earned their four-year degrees from Lewis by taking all their classes at COD's campus in Glen Ellyn.

The "flood journey" that began April 18 drags on for many who make their home at the Towers at Four Lakes in Lisle. None of the apartments in the eight-story towers took on water, but the parking decks and lower levels did. System failures and power outages are keeping residents from their units until June 15. "I am choosing to stay at the towers because I love where I live and I just want to go home," said Debra Schulz. "But this is such a long period of time just to get back into our homes."

Dozens of home and business owners visited FEMA'S Disaster Recovery Center on Thursday during its first day of operation at the Lisle Police Department. Those affected by last month's floods can get help to apply for federal assistance in the form of FEMA grants and low-interest loans to cover uninsured costs ranging from repairs to alternative housing. "We want to talk to people who are insured and those who aren't because we've got programs to fill in some of the holes of insurance," FEMA spokesman Mike McCormick said.
