Appetizers theme of evening with Batavia library Friends

The Friends of the Batavia Public Library will combine its annual meeting with "An Evening of Appetizers" cooking demonstration at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26.

Bringing over 20 years of experience in the foods industry, Cathy Blozis will prepare a variety of simple, attractive appetizers that anyone can make.

Blozis will also share several recipes, including a spinach artichoke dip that she developed. Tastings will follow the presentation.

Door prizes will include books about appetizers and Friends' T-shirts.

Friends' president, Daniel Russo, said that the meeting will begin with the election of officers and a brief financial report. "Last year Cathy Blozis presented 'An Evening of Chocolate,' and everyone enjoyed that event so much that we wanted to have Cathy return this year with a different focus," Russo said.

The Friends raise money through two annual used book sales and membership dues. Projects of the Friends enrich the library experience of patrons. Current activities include One Book, One Batavia, adult and family reading clubs, and several literacy promotions.

"The used book sale enables everyone to buy great books at low prices," said Karen LaBarbera, book sale chair. This year's spring book sale will begin April 24.

Reservations for the annual meeting and "Evening of Appetizers" can be made by calling the Friends at (630) 879-8220. Prospective members can find the online membership form at Friends@BataviaPublicLibrary.org/Friends.
