A 1994 graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Michelle Holdway has worked at the Daily Herald since 1998. Before that, she was on the night copy desk at the Daily Southtown in Tinley Park and was the sports editor for The Daily American in downstate West Frankfort.

She won a Lisagor award in 2000 as part of the design team for the Daily Herald's "Crossing Centuries" sections.

She's been the assistant news editor on the night copy desk since 2006 and named news editor in February 2015.
