Marty Stengle is a sports copy editor whose responsibilities include pro, college and high school sports. He joined the Daily Herald in 1985 as a freelance reporter and became the high school sports coordinator in 1988 as a full-time employee.

He received the Daily Herald Editorial Excellence award in 1993 and took first place in the 1992 Associated Press editorial contest for a feature on sports medicine.

He was named journalist of the year in 1994 by the Illinois Baseball Coaches Association.

Prior to joining the Daily Herald, he worked in the travel and tourism industry for 14 years. He is a graduate of the University of Illinois-Chicago with a degree in business management.

He has lived in Arlington Heights since 1975.
