She also covers Elgin bond call several times a week. She has been interviewed about Daily Herald stories on WBBM News Radio 780.
Adkins earned a bachelor's degree in journalism and mass media from Rutgers University, with a focus on print journalism. She also minored in history. Before joining the Daily Herald, she was a staff writer at the Hyde Park Herald, Chicago's oldest community newspaper, and the Lakefront Outlook, which details ongoing development in Bronzeville.
