Lenore Adkins joined the Daily Herald in June 2004 and covers several towns, crime and breaking news in the Fox Valley.

Before that, Adkins covered Central Unit District 301, South Elgin, weekend events and community news about Elgin people, places and institutions. Adkins has spent her entire Daily Herald career working in the Fox Valley bureau and is currently responsible for news in Algonquin, Lake in the Hills, Cary, Fox River Grove, Pingree Grove and McHenry County College. She also covers Elgin bond call several times a week. She has been interviewed about Daily Herald stories on WBBM News Radio 780.

Adkins earned a bachelor's degree in journalism and mass media from Rutgers University, with a focus on print journalism. She also minored in history. Before joining the Daily Herald, she was a staff writer at the Hyde Park Herald, Chicago's oldest community newspaper, and the Lakefront Outlook, which details ongoing development in Bronzeville. For nearly three years, she covered the education beat and in 2004 placed second in an Illinois Press Association contest in the education category.

Adkins stays active by running, playing tennis and soccer. She is so crazy about tennis that she plans her vacations around the four Grand Slam tournaments.
