The District 57 referendum submitted for voter approval on March 20 presents a real dilemma for seniors of Mount Prospect, young parents of District 57 and for the school board itself. On one hand, the District 57 board has presented a strong case as to why additional funds are needed to maintain an excellent school system. However, many retirees can absorb only so much in the way of increased property taxes. Young families have horrendous expenses to look forward to in educating their children, and, by necessity, must spend wisely to prepare for their own retirement.
