Boy Scout Troop 2 of Elgin recently recognized Travis St. Amand of Carpentersville as a recent recipient of the highest award in Scouting, the rank of Eagle Scout. Troop 2 is chartered by St. John's Lutheran Church in Elgin.

One of the standing traditions in the Elgin community is the annual Elgin Area Chamber of Commerce Thanksgiving Luncheon, where they reach out in gratitude and friendship to local service clubs and organizations and sponsor a luncheon.

Batavia MainStreet is stepping up to the challenge of helping to decorate downtown Batavia for the holidays. The current budget cuts at the city have downsized the annual downtown Batavia holiday decorating plans, so MainStreet is calling for business owners and volunteers to help with a lighting plan.

The Cirque de la Musique gala was a record-raising event for the Elgin Community College Foundation, netting $59,444. That is the highest total ever for an ECC Foundation event. Held Sept. 26 at the Sanfilippo Estate in Barrington Hills, the gala was attended by a sellout crowd totaling 280 people.
