Arlington Heights VFW Post 781 offering $3,000 scholarship

Arlington Heights VFW Post 981 is offering a $3,000 scholarship grant in honor of U.S. Army veteran Wally Luettschwager, a lifelong Arlington Heights resident, past commander of the VFW Post and organizer of Memorial Day events in the village.

Students who attend or will attend college in a degree program or a recognized trade school are eligible to apply. The ideal candidate will be an active duty or reserve member of the military, honorably discharged veteran, or a direct descendant of an honorably discharged veteran.

All other things being equal, preference will be given to residents of the northwest Cook County suburbs and adjacent areas in Lake County, with additional consideration to those from towns served by Post 981.

An application form is available on Post 981's website, www.vfwpost981.com. Applications will be accepted beginning Jan. 1 and are due by March 1. Finalists will be interviewed by the Post Scholarship Committee and the recipient will be announced by May 1.
