3 brothers charged with attempted murder in Sunday shooting in Aurora

Three brothers - including a teenager - have been charged with attempted murder after a gang-related shooting Sunday afternoon in Aurora.

Christopher Cappucino, 16, of the 200 block of Ohio Street in Aurora, has been charged as an adult, and his bail was set at $500,000 Thursday afternoon, authorities said.

His older brothers, Francisco Perez and Ismael Perez, are also charged with attempted murder.

Judge Michael Noland set Francisco Perez's bail at $1 million - nearly twice what Kane County Assistant State's Attorney Bill Engerman requested. "What I'm hearing is he may have been the mastermind of this entire enterprise," Noland said.

Engerman said Perez, 24, of the 200 block of Ohio in Aurora, was the one who noticed the victim, drove the car, gave the guns to his brothers and told them to "shoot him up." He also said Perez had been shot in 2017 in a gang dispute.

Ismael Perez, 21, of the 1800 block of South Hamilton in Streator, was judged delinquent of attempted murder as a juvenile in a 2017 case, Engerman said. Noland set his bail at $600,000.

Cappucino and his brothers followed the victim, who is a member or affiliated with a rival gang, to his home, Engerman said. While the victim was sitting in his car, Cappucino fired several gunshots at him, Engerman said. Police found 49 shell casings, he added.

The victim suffered four gunshot wounds. The house was also damaged.

All three brothers are also charged with aggravated battery with a weapon, aggravated discharge of a weapon and armed violence.

Aurora police say suspects in Sunday shooting in custody

An Aurora police investigation into a Nov. 29 shooting in Aurora found Ismael Perez, 21, of the 400 block of Grand Avenue in Aurora was given handguns by another charged in the case.
