Metra crews are working to replace the rubberized crossing at Glenview Road - the main thoroughfare through downtown Glenview - with precast concrete sections.
Work started Sept. 16, and prefabricated sections of railroad track were staged temporarily in a parking area east of the Milwaukee North Line prior to installation.
On Saturday morning, the easternmost track was removed and the roadbed was being resurfaced in preparation for the installation of a new track section. By Tuesday, both tracks at the crossing had been replaced and the concrete sections were being installed on the west track.
Metra, Amtrak and Canadian Pacific trains use the two-track mainline.
Dewes Street is being used as a detour during the construction, which is expected to be complete Friday, Sept. 25.
