Watch the full debate between Cooper and Banek in race for Lake County coroner

Editor's note: This story has been changed to say Jennifer Banek was elected to the Cook Memorial Library District board in 2019.

The two candidates for Lake County coroner debated needs facing the office and opioid overdose death increases due to COVID-19 during a Zoom interview with members of the Daily Herald Editorial Board.

Incumbent Dr. Howard Cooper, a Republican from Wadsworth, and Democratic opponent Jennifer Banek of Green Oaks discussed those issues and others in a wide-ranging interview that ran about an hour.

Cooper, a dentist with an extensive background in forensics, was elected four years ago. Banek is a nurse anesthesiologist and a captain in the U.S. Army Reserves. She was elected to the Cook Memorial Library District board in 2019.
