Boat capsizes on Fox River near St. Charles

Fire crews responded to a capsized boat on the Fox River near St. Charles Saturday afternoon, officials said.

The St. Charles firefighters were dispatched about 3:59 p.m. to the Fox River north of Pottawatomie Park after receiving calls that a boat had capsized, according to a fire department news release.

Firefighters arrived on the scene about 4:01 p.m. and the victim - who was the only person in the boat - was able to get himself to the shoreline and was located behind a house at 966 N. Second Street, according to the release. The boat was also at the shoreline, authorities confirmed.

He received a medical evaluation at the scene but refused additional treatment or transport, according to the release. No firefighters were injured. A St. Charles boat got the victim and his boat back to the Boy Scout Island boat launch, according to the release.

The Geneva and South Elgin fire departments also assisted, officials said.
