Schweikher House in Schaumburg reopening for tours

The historic Schweikher House in Schaumburg will reopen for Friday Tours on July 10 and Second Saturday Tours on Aug. 8.

Friday Tours are at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.; Second Saturday Tours are at 11 a.m.

The Schweikher House Preservation Trust has lowered its ticket price to $20 per person but now requires advance signup to limit the number of visitors in tour groups, following COVID-19 protocols for best museum practices.

Face masks will be required by all tour participants. The public is also invited to come visit the grounds for free every Friday and the second Saturday of each month, starting in August, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Schweikher House was constructed in 1938 as Modernist architect Paul Schweikher's home and studio. The property is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the American Institute of Architects top 200 architectural sites in Illinois.

The entrance to the Schweikher House at 645 S. Meacham Road in Schaumburg is a long gravel driveway along the east side of Meacham Road. The driveway can be spotted by a bright white mailbox next to the gap in the guardrail.
