Glenview names new fire chief

Glenview's Interim Fire Chief Tony DeRose is no longer the interim, officials announced Friday.

DeRose has been appointed chief, effective July 1. DeRose had been serving as Interim Fire Chief since the retirement of former Chief Ralph Ensign in August 2019.

DeRose has more than 20 years of fire service experience. He came to Glenview in August 2019 as a deputy fire chief, and before that worked at the Countryside Fire Department near Vernon Hills.

"Chief DeRose has done an outstanding job leading our Fire Department during these difficult times of public health crisis," Glenview Village Manager Matt Formica said in a news release. "We are confident Tony's sound leadership and extensive experience make him the ideal person to lead our high-quality team of fire and EMS professionals."

DeRose holds Chief Fire Officer certification through the Office of the State fire marshal. He earned a bachelor's degree in Fire Science Management from Southern Illinois University.

"I am humbled and honored to be given the opportunity to serve as Glenview's next Fire Chief," DeRose said in the release. "I look forward to continuing to work with the dedicated members of the Glenview Fire Department, which has a long tradition of pride providing exceptional service to the community."
