Batavia cancels July 4 fireworks

The 70th annual July 4 Batavia Fireworks Sky Concert has been canceled due to COVID-19 health concerns, officials said Friday.

The fireworks committee will continue to look for other options and dates when it might be able to do a shorter show without music. Donations for next year's show are being accepted at bataviafireworks.org.

Meanwhile, efforts continue to raise funds for the Flag Day Monument, dedicated to Dr. Bernard Cigrand, a longtime Batavia dentist who is nationally considered the Father of Flag Day.

The Batavia Flag Day Committee, the Fox Valley Patriotic Organization, and the city have installed a sign at the site of the future Flag Day Monument on the Riverwalk in downtown. Residents are asked to visit flagdaymonument.com to make a donation or buy an engraved brick to help build the monument.
