Addison traffic court temporarily moved to Wheaton

People scheduled to appear in traffic court in Addison starting next week will have to go to DuPage County's main courthouse in Wheaton instead.

Addison notified county officials it doesn't want large crowds in village hall, where the court sessions are held, because it does not want to increase its employees' risk of exposure to COVID-19.

So instead, court will be held in the annex of the Henry J. Hyde Judicial Center, 505 N. County Farm Road, Wheaton.

This affects all cases due to be heard from Monday through July 2, according to an order from Chief Judge Daniel Guerin.

The county rents the village council room from Addison under a four-year contract approved in March 2018, for a maximum of $261,595. The county has had a traffic court - officially, a "field" court - in Addison for at least 25 years.

It is not known how long the situation will last, according to the judge's order. Any new tickets will still have the Addison court address.

The county's other field court, in an American Legion Post at 4000 Saratoga Ave. in Downers Grove, will reopen Monday.
