Stevenson High School team makes finals of national math contest

A team of students from Lincolnshire's Stevenson High School has advanced to the final round of a national math competition. But instead of an in-person contest, the MathWorks Math Modeling Challenge will be decided remotely because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Stevenson's Philena Liu, Joshua Tsai, Praneet Rathi, Sai Merneedi and Brandon Lu are among the students from across the nation moving ahead to the final level of the contest. A team of judges will scrutinize papers the competitors wrote and crown the winner by April 27.

Normally, the final round is an all-day, in-person event in New York City. Stevenson's team is one of nine squads that made it to the final round, and the only one from Illinois.
