Palatine honors 100th anniversary of League of Women Voters

Five members from the League of Women Voters of the Palatine Area were at village hall this week to receive recognition for the national organization's 100th anniversary.

Palatine Mayor Jim Schwantz read and presented a proclamation to the women. The League of Women Voters was established on Feb. 14, 1920. The organization was formed six months before Congress ratified the 19th Amendment granting American women the right to vote.

The Palatine chapter also serves Inverness, Hoffman Estates, Rolling Meadows, Schaumburg and other surrounding areas.
