District 62 tax levy going up 6.6%

The Des Plaines Elementary School District 62 board has adopted a 2019 tax levy in the amount of $76 million.

The 6.6% increase over the prior year is based on the increase in the 2018 Consumer Price Index of 1.9% and the projected increase in tax revenues from new construction within the district. District officials said that owners of existing properties within the district will see an increase of approximately 1.9%.

A public hearing on the levy was held in December prior to the board's vote.
