Paint the Town Green St. in Palatine hitting milestone

While there always is plenty of fun to be found at Palatine's St. Patrick's Day festivities, there will be another reason to celebrate next year.

Palatine's Paint the Town Green fest and parade will mark its 10th anniversary when the event is held in the village's downtown March 14. Durty Nellie's and ElizEvents Inc. once again are organizing the St. Patrick's Day bash and parade.

Village council members this week approved a temporary closure of some downtown streets so the parade can run between the village hall on Wood Street and Durty Nellie's on Smith Street. The parade, which attracted about 50 entries this year, will begin at 11 a.m.

Co-organizer Bill Pohlman appeared before the village council and noted the 2020 Paint the Town Green will celebrate its 10th anniversary.

"It's a great event," Councilman Brad Helms said, "and we all appreciate it."

Palatine Mayor Jim Schwantz said he did not imagine that Paint the Town Green would hit the 10-year mark and still be going strong when he was in office when it started

Last year's Paint the Town Green offered plenty of food, drink, entertainment, a scavenger hunt and an opportunity for patrons to help Journeys the Road Home, which helps those who are homeless or at risk.
