Clerk beaten with gun during Palatine Township armed robbery
Authorities continue to investigate a reported armed robbery Tuesday in unincorporated Palatine Township, in which a convenience store clerk was hit in the head with a handgun.
Cook County sheriff's police said the robbery was reported about 1 a.m. Tuesday in the 1600 block of East Algonquin Road. The clerk was treated for minor injuries at the scene and two male suspects remain at large, according to the sheriff's office.
Sheriff's deputies called to the store early Tuesday were told that one of the men chased the clerk to the rear of the business, then struck him in the head with the gun, knocking him to the floor.
The second suspect went behind a counter and handed a cash register to the first offender, who was holding the clerk at gunpoint, sheriff's police said. The second offender then took a second cash register and both men left the store, according to authorities.
The robbers may have driven away in a gray, 4-door SUV with large tires, possibly a Jeep.
Authorities said one suspect was described as a black man with a slim build, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, dark pants and a black mask. The second was described as having lighter skin, also of slim build, and wearing a dark jacket with a lighter-colored "V" pattern on the front, a gray hat or hood, and a black mask.
Sheriff's police said anyone with information is asked to call (847) 635-1188.
