Liberty Theatre demolition request heard Monday by historic commission

The Libertyville Historic Preservation Commission will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28, to discuss a request to demolish the Liberty Theatre, 708 N. Milwaukee Ave.

The owner of the 1930s-era structure with "great regret" is seeking permission to demolish the building because the tenant operating as the Liberty 1 & 2 theaters can't make a go of it despite rent cuts and there are no other options.

The building is in a designated historic district and as such needs to be reviewed by the advisory commission, which will make a recommendation to the village board.

The meeting will be held at the Libertyville Civic Center, 135 W. Church St.
