Lake Zurich police honored in traffic safety competition

The Lake Zurich Police Department won third place in the 2018 Illinois Traffic Safety Challenge.

The award was presented at a ceremony Wednesday, at the Midwest Security and Police Conference/Expo in Tinley Park. Lake Zurich police won first place in their size category last year, which made them eligible to compete in the Championship Class category this year, according to the department. The Championship Class category is comprised of the first-place winners from the previous year, regardless of size.

Agencies are evaluated for enforcement initiatives, innovating problem solving in their communities, using public information activities and creating departmental policies that support their traffic enforcement campaign efforts.

"We are very proud to be recognized with this award," Police Chief Steve Husak said. "It is the result of the outstanding work of our traffic and patrol officers."
