Police: 2 Streamwood men arrested in Elgin after fleeing traffic stop

Two Streamwood men were arrested Sunday evening in Elgin after speeding away from a sheriff's deputy, officials said.

A deputy was on patrol near North McClean Boulevard and Wing Street when he tried to stop a Chevrolet Equinox being driven without headlights, according to a news release from the Kane County sheriff's office.

The driver sped away, reaching speeds of over 50 mph on residential streets, police said. The deputy didn't pursue the chase, but the Chevrolet eventually stopped.

Authorities detained four men at the scene. Dequan J.M. Bailey, 22, of Streamwood, was arrested and charged with aggravated fleeing, a felony. He was later released on a recognizance bond, police said.

Authorities found a loaded Glock handgun with an extended capacity magazine in the front seat where Kevin J. Hamilton, 21, of Streamwood, was sitting, the release said. Police then discovered that Hamilton was a convicted felon. He was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and two counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. His bond was set at $60,000.

"We are creating a community where there is no need to commit crime or become involved with drugs because we have opportunities and support to lead a productive life, even for those with felonies on their record," Sheriff Ron Hain said after the incident. "If you choose to come to Kane to commit crime, expect to be met with zero tolerance by our law enforcement officers."
