No one injured in Ingleside garage fire

Thanks to quick thinking by a resident, firefighters from the Fox Lake Fire Protection District were able to extinguish a fire that started in the garage of an Ingleside home Tuesday afternoon before the blaze could spread.

Fox Lake Fire Battalion Chief Brent Connelly said a resident at a home on the 35000 block of N. Greenleaf Avenue heard a popping noise coming from the garage and found that a fire had started near some electrical equipment. Connelly said the resident immediately called 911 and gathered up the two children and puppy that were elsewhere in the home, then headed outside to wait for firefighters.

The first responders arrived at 3:39 p.m., just two minutes after the resident called for help, and they found a lot of heavy black smoke pouring from the garage. Connelly said the crews were able to attack the fire and knock it down in two or three minutes. He said they then confirmed that the fire hadn't spread to the rest of the house.

"There was a fair amount of smoke and heat damage to the garage itself, but it was very limited in scope," Connelly said. "The knockdown was quick and that's because the tenant was on her toes in recognizing a problem and getting us to the scene quickly."

Connelly said no one was injured by the blaze and the home remains habitable. He said there were no cars in the garage when the fire started and the cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
