Logistics to helicopter visit to Arlington Heights on Memorial Day announced

A visit by an Illinois Army National Guard Blackhawk helicopter will be part of the Arlington Heights Centennial Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony Monday, May 27.

Weather permitting, the helicopter will land at 10:30 a.m. at the soccer field just east of Recreation Park, 500 E. Miner St., and the helicopter aircrew will offer tours until about 2:30 p.m.

To ensure safety, the soccer field will be fenced off the day before, and there will be one entry and one exit point for visitors. Arlington Heights police and volunteers will be on site to manage traffic and crowds.

For Memorial Day, Douglas Avenue will be changed to one way going south and Hickory Avenue will be changed to one way going north. Visitors will use street parking. Organizers request that people who are able to do so park one or two blocks away from Recreation Park and walk in to avoid the congestion.

The parade steps off from village hall, 33 S. Arlington Heights Road, at 9:30 a.m. and the ceremony will be held at Memorial Park, 410 N. Arlington Heights Road, at 11 a.m.
