Robber used Lyft to get to and from Rolling Meadows bank, FBI says

The man charged in Saturday's robbery of Ben Franklin Bank in Rolling Meadows used a ride-sharing service to get to and from the bank, according to a criminal complaint filed by the FBI.

Jonathan Decorah took $5,964 from the bank, 3266 Kirchoff Road, and fled in a white Hyundai, the complaint said.

Around 9:35 a.m., Decorah entered the bank wearing a black jacket, jeans, bright blue gym shoes, a dark hat and a black cloth covering his face, authorities said.

According to the complaint, he walked up to the bank's teller with his right hand in his jacket and handed the teller a note that read "Give me all the money or Ill (sic) blow your head off. I got 2 guys outside with machine guns."

A separate employee recognized Decorah as a customer because of his voice and "distinct, crooked nose," according to the complaint.

The bank manager noticed the teller was acting strange and also recognized Decorah as a customer, according to the complaint. The teller, the manager and the other employee all later identified Decorah in a police lineup, the FBI said.

Witnesses at the bank reported Decorah had fled in a vehicle with a ride-share sticker in the rear window, which turned out to be a Lyft, the complaint said.

The Lyft driver took Decorah to the United Airlines terminal of O'Hare International Airport, where he was found by authorities around 2:10 p.m. wearing the same clothes and carrying bills from the bank, according to the complaint.

Decorah admitted to the FBI he had robbed the bank, the complaint said.
