One person rescued from Lake Michigan, one still missing

Waukegan firefighters rescued a person who had fallen into Lake Michigan Friday afternoon but were unable to find another who had jumped in to help, officials said.

Firefighters were called just after 4:30 p.m. to the Stiner Pavilion at Waukegan Municipal Beach for a report of two people struggling in the water, according to a news release from the Waukegan Fire Department.

One of the victims had slipped off the pier, and the other had jumped in to help them, according to the release. One was able to get out of the water and taken to Vista East Medical Center in Waukegan. No information about their condition was available. Divers, and later a boat, searched for the missing person, but worsening weather and limited visibility made the search difficult. As of late Friday, the second victim still hadn't been found, officials said.
