Driver gets prison time for dragging Streamwood man after failed drug deal

A Rockford man who authorities say drove the car that dragged a Streamwood man after a failed drug deal on Aug. 4 was sentenced to 2½ years in prison Wednesday.

Terievis Norman, 23, pleaded guilty to aggravated battery causing great bodily harm in exchange for the sentence, prosecutors said.

Authorities say the victim suffered serious injuries as a result of being dragged for about one-third of a mile.

Norman's co-defendant, Ryan Shelton, 23, of Elgin, pleaded guilty last month in exchange for a two-year prison sentence. According to prosecutors, Shelton arranged to purchase marijuana from the Streamwood man at his home. The man handed the drugs to Shelton, who was sitting in the passenger's seat of the car driven by Norman.

Prosecutors say when Shelton failed to give the man the amount of money they had agreed upon, the man tried to take back the marijuana. At that point, Norman drove away. The victim grabbed Shelton's shirt and was dragged. He lost consciousness, fell to the ground and subsequently suffered facial fractures, a spinal fracture, a shattered pelvis and other injuries, authorities said.
