Jury trial set for former DuPage County sheriff dispatch supervisor facing public indecency charge

A former longtime dispatch supervisor in the DuPage County sheriff's office, indicted on official misconduct and public indecency charges, has opted for his case to be tried by a jury.

A Feb. 19 jury trial was set Thursday for former communication supervisor Gregg Hanyzeski, 52, of Naperville.

Hanyzeski, a 17-year-veteran of the department, was fired Nov. 30, 2017, after female underlings complained about him exposing himself and masturbating in the dispatch center and a criminal investigation was launched.

According to the indictment, the activity took place on more than occasion “on or between May 1, 2017, and Nov. 30, 2017.”

Hanyzeski pleaded not guilty to the charges March 5. He is free on $1,000 bail he posted last December after turning himself in to Warrenville police on an arrest warrant.

Hanyzeski's attorneys have argued prosecutors have not given them a specific enough time frame for them to mount a defense, but Judge Robert Miller denied their motion last month and ordered the state to be more specific.

Hanyzeski currently has no court date set before the trial date.
