Hanover Park man pleads guilty to attacking Elgin man

A Hanover Park man who smoked marijuana with an Elgin acquaintance and then demanded money and drugs from him at gunpoint pleaded guilty to aggravated battery with a deadly weapon Monday in Rolling Meadows.

Cecil R. Palmer, 27, was sentenced to three years in prison in exchange for his guilty plea.

Prosecutors said the two smoked marijuana together earlier this year at the 20-year-old victim's home, and the victim told Palmer he had money in a safe that he was going to use to buy a car. They say Palmer demanded the money at gunpoint and took it and marijuana from the man, striking him in the process.

Court records show Palmer was fined $654. He received credit for 324 days in custody.
