Schaumburg parks host Holiday House Decorating Contest, tour

If your house would look more at home in Santa's Village than the village of Schaumburg next month, you may want to enter the Schaumburg Park District's Holiday House Decorating Contest.

Residents can enter by submitting an entry form by 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, at the Community Recreation Center, 505 N. Springinsguth Road in Schaumburg.

Houses will be judged on originality, theme, arrangement and overall presentation. Participation is limited to the first 10 entrants.

"The Holiday House Decorating Contest is a great way to unleash your creativity and spread joy to the rest of the neighborhood," said Kathleen Benson, Bock Center manager and general program supervisor. "Seeing all of the colorful lights as you drive throughout Schaumburg really is a spectacular sight."

Houses entered in the contest may be decorated at any time before Tuesday, Dec. 11, and must be within the Schaumburg Park District's jurisdiction.

Judging will take place during the Holiday House Decorating Contest Tour from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11 and Wednesday, Dec. 12.

The cost of the tour is $10 for park district residents and $15 for nonresidents. Preregistration for the tour is required by 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, or until seats are full. Contest entrants are not eligible to judge, but may join the tour.
