Schaumburg man pleads not guilty to crashing into Hanover Park squad while drunk
A Schaumburg man charged with drunken driving and accused of striking a Hanover Park police car and three other vehicles as he fled from police this month has pleaded not guilty to an eight-count felony indictment and 15 separate misdemeanor charges.
Kimani Unseld, 25, of the 1500 block of Revere Circle, is charged with three counts of aggravated assault, two counts of aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude a peace officer, two counts of aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol, and two counts of leaving the scene of an accident with damage to another vehicle. He's also charged with one count each of criminal damage to government supported property, failure to yield to emergency vehicles, squealing or screeching tires, driving too fast for conditions, disobeying a traffic control device, disobeying a police officer, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and driving with a revoked license.
Hanover Park police officers were conducting a traffic stop involving another driver about 9:05 p.m. Oct. 2, authorities said, when Unseld crashed into an officer's squad car, reversed his vehicle and sped away - injuring an officer and striking three other vehicles in the process.
Unseld then drove to a golf driving range, where he exited his vehicle and fled on foot, prosecutors said. Officers used a police dog to track and find Unseld a short time later, officials said.
Prosecutors allege Unseld's blood alcohol concentration was .17. The legal threshold to drive in Illinois is .08.
He remains in custody in DuPage County on $75,000 bail.
Unseld's next court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 19.
