Arlington Heights neighbors rally around couple whose son died in accident

Neighbors of an Arlington Heights couple whose 31-year-old son died suddenly from an electric shock while working in the family's garage last Sunday are tying white ribbons and bows around parkway trees to show their support.

Four blocks of trees on North Hickory Avenue are carrying the ribbons in memory of Jeffrey P. Moroney, and now those neighbors are hoping other residents will do the same.

"I sure wish more people in our community could see and lots of people should see this," said neighbor Beth Wade. "It warms your heart."

Jeffrey Moroney's parents, Patrick and Nancy, put up a sign shortly after the ribbons started appearing thanking their neighbors for the sentiment.

"Your love and kindness are deeply appreciated," the note read. "Love will get us through this. Thanks for sharing it."

Jeffrey Moroney was apparently working in the garage at the home he lived at with his parents on the 700 block of North Hickory Avenue when he suffered a fatal electric shock. His obituary called it a "tragic accident doing what he loved, working and creating in his garage workshop."

His family suggested donations to the Foundation for Children in Need in his memory as well. The website is fcnindia.org.
