Ex-District 211 cashier pleads guilty to stealing more than $80K

A former Palatine-Schaumburg High School District 211 cashier pleaded guilty Friday to stealing more than $80,000 from the district where she worked for 12 years.

Denise Bazsali, 55, of Schaumburg was sentenced to one year of probation in exchange for her guilty plea, court records show. According to prosecutors, Bazsali repaid the money authorities say she stole between March 2014 and September 2017.

School officials discovered the theft on Sept. 11, 2017, while Bazsali was out sick, prosecutors said during her bond hearing last December. A co-worker found two payments that had not been entered in Bazsali's desk, prosecutors said. That sparked an internal investigation which uncovered $4,500 in transactions under Bazsali's login and password. A subsequent investigation discovered 200 transactions totaling $82,125.

No student information or credit card information was compromised by the theft, a District 211 spokesman said.
