Lake County sheriff's office to host three drug take back events

The Lake County sheriff's office is partnering with the DEA and hosting three drug take back programs on Saturday, Oct. 27.

The events will be hosted at the Beach Park village hall, 11270 W. Wadsworth Road in Beach Park; the Long Grove Fire Protection District, 1165 Old McHenry Road in Long Grove; and at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 27551 Volo Village Road in Volo.

Lake County residents are encouraged to visit between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. and drop off potentially dangerous, expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs. Doing so will help prevent substance abuse and theft, according to a Lake County Sheriff's Office news release.

The service is free and anonymous.

Last year, Lake County's law enforcement agencies collected more than 13,000 pounds of unwanted, unused and expired prescriptions and over-the-counter medicines, an increase of 21 percent over 2016.
