Investigation continues into shooting outside Elgin Turners

Elgin police continue to investigate a shooting Saturday night that injured a man outside Elgin Turners Hall.

Officers responded to the shooting at about 10:16 p.m. Saturday, outside the building at 112 Villa St., Cmdr. Frank Trost said. The victim, a 36-year-old man, was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, police said.

There was a large party at the club that evening - some reports said 100 or more people - attended by a lot of "youngsters and teenagers," Trost said. The shooting stemmed from an altercation and "the victim was a relative of the person the party was for," he said.

Detectives from the major Investigations Division are investigating the case, which includes interviewing a large number of people, Trost said.

Elgin Turners is a private club with Friday night dining open to the public and banquet hall rentals for special events.

A woman who answered the club's phone would not comment Monday afternoon.
