Medinah Park District bids adieu to summer with Family Fest

You can't close out the summer without one last slice of fresh watermelon.

Which is why Medinah Park District made a watermelon-eating contest a featured event in its end-of-summer celebration Saturday at Family Fest.

Kids sunk their teeth into watermelon - watch out for those seeds! - during the family-friendly bash on the grounds of Thorndale Park and Connolly Recreation Center.

The festival also featured live music, a petting zoo, program demos and a production of Dave DiNaso's Traveling World of Reptiles. The event was sponsored by Itasca Bank & Trust and WSHE FM 100.3.
