Route 31 open again after buckling pavement repairs

Route 31 in Aurora reopened early Friday after buckling pavement forced officials to close part of Route 31 Thursday in Aurora, authorities said.

All lanes of Route 31 were closed Thursday afternoon near the intersection of West Downer Place, along with parts of the eastbound lanes of Downer, according to the Aurora police department.

Police said they didn't know what caused the road damage, but near-record heat caused similar problems in DuPage County earlier this year.

In May, a four-mile stretch of Route 59 in Naperville had to be closed for several hours while crews repaired damaged pavement, and Meacham and Roselle roads in Schaumburg were temporarily closed for the same reason.
