Rodeo brings bit of Wild West to Wauconda

Wauconda and Wild West went hand in hand - or maybe foot-in-stirrup - this weekend as the village played host to the 55th annual IPRA Championship Wauconda Rodeo at the Golden Oaks Equestrian Center.

The two-day rodeo, sponsored by the Wauconda Area Chamber of Commerce, featured six competitive events: Saddle Bronc Riding, Bareback Bronc Riding, Bull Riding, Cowgirl Barrel Racing, Steer Roping and Tie-Down Roping.

The rodeo arena also featured performances by Midwest Renegades Equestrian Drill Team, trick riders and rodeo clowns, along with live musical performances before and after the competition.

Away from the arena, fans had a chance to try their own rodeo skills on a mechanical bull, sample food and drink and check out a variety of merchandise vendors.

Sunday was Family Day, with a free petting zoo, pony rides and a kids moonwalk added to the preshow activities.
