No injuries in deck fire at Palatine apartment complex

No injuries were reported early Tuesday after fire broke out on the wooden clubhouse deck at a Palatine apartment complex, authorities said.

The Palatine Fire Department was called to the Bourbon Square Apartments, in the 500 block of East Constitution Drive, at 5:06 a.m. in response to a report of a barbecue grill fire that involved a wooden deck attached to the clubhouse. The first crews arrived at 5:12 a.m. and found smoke coming from the rear of the clubhouse, fire officials said.

The fire was quickly extinguished and damage was confined to the deck and exterior trim on the clubhouse building, according to the fire department. The fire was declared under control at 5:16 a.m. Damage estimates were not available.

Investigators determined that the fire began in the area around the grill and extended to the surrounding cabinetry and deck. The cause of the fire remains is under investigation.
