District 301 seeking candidates to fill several administrative vacancies

Burlington-based Central Unit District 301 is seeking people to fill several administrative vacancies for next school year.

Officials are seeking new principals and full-time assistant principals for Country Trails Elementary School and Prairie View Grade School, both in Elgin, and a district assistant director of student services.

Country Trails Principal Jeff King and Prairie View Principal Daniel Schuth resigned last week for unknown reasons.

"It was kind of a mutual decision to go in different directions," Superintendent Todd Stirn said. "We're going to interview internal applicants. We are starting that process next week. Based on that process, we will decide if we need to continue to expand our search or not."

The district has part-time assistant principals at Country Trails and Prairie View. Those will become full-time positions due to the size of the schools, Stirn said.

Interviews for the assistant director of student services position for which several "strong internal candidates" have applied will occur this week.

"The size of that department has remained unchanged since 2005," said Stirn, adding the selected candidate will absorb the duties of the early childhood coordinator. "The goal is to have administrators in place by the beginning of August."

A new principal also will be at the helm at Howard B. Thomas Grade School in Hampshire.

Jeff Gerard, an elementary school principal from Oswego Unit District 308, replaced Principal Carrie Hahlstedt, who resigned the post at the end of last school year and might seek other employment within the district for next school year, Stirn said.
