The fight against cancer was waged with 9-irons and putters at Medinah Country Club on Monday, as the NCH Foundation hosted its 21st annual Golf Classic to support the latest advancements in treatment for the disease.
Proceeds from the outing are being dedicated to Arlington Heights-based Northwest Community Healthcare's plans to acquire the newest linear accelerator in the health care market, one billed as more intuitive for cancer fighters and less intimidating for patients. Northwest Community Hospital would be the first in Illinois and among the first in the nation to offer it, according to the foundation.
A linear accelerator is used to deliver radiation during cancer treatments. The newest versions have been redesigned for better speed, safety and accuracy, making the task of daily treatments quicker and easier.
"Super quiet with all the moving parts completely enclosed, a patient familiar with traditional treatments will know right away that this is a game-changer," according to the foundation.
