Aurora man charged with fleeing police after crash

A 21-year-old parolee now is facing charges after Aurora police say he drove away from an attempted traffic stop, crashed the car and then ran.

Adrien L. Betsinger, of the 500 block of Woodlawn Avenue, Aurora, is charged with felony aggravated fleeing and eluding.

He is also accused of driving on a revoked license, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, speeding approximately 60 mph in a 30-mph zone, improper lane usage, running a red light and not signaling within 100 feet of an intersection.

Bestinger also is charged with a parole violation, and police are investigating a gun found near where he man was arrested, officials said.

According to police, around 10:30 p.m. June 29, Betsinger was driving a 2000 Chevy Monte Carlo when he ran a red light at Galena Boulevard and Smith Street. After a short pursuit, a police officer lost sight of the vehicle.

Minutes later, though, another patrol officer spotted the car over the curb at Galena and Lincoln Avenue, where it had crashed.

By that time, Betsinger and another man had run away, police said.

Officers found Betsinger in a yard on the first block of South Lincoln Avenue, police said. The second man was not found, while a third passenger who remained in the vehicle was released without being charged.

During the search, a .40-caliber semi-automatic pistol was found in a yard near where Betsinger was arrested. The gun is being processed for forensic evidence as part of the continuing investigation.

Betsinger is being held in the Kane County jail on $25,000 bail.
